Bob Tollast

Here’s just a small cross section of the stuff we’re into, some of my recent and old favourites ->

Jai Paul- BTSTU
Don’t know much about this guy, but if this is a demo then can’t wait to hear more of his stuff. Really good, inventive soul.
Caribou- Yeti
This was the first Caribou track I heard, been into them ever since. He’s still making awesome music, the new albums great. When I saw them at Glastonbury they played an incredible sunset set with two excellent drummers at the front. Dan Snaith is the best bald man in music right now. On the brink of indulgent prog but never goes off the edge…
Can- Sing Swan Song.
From their 1972 album Ege Bamyasi, this is a beguiling swirl of analogue keyboards and weird sounding instruments, a strangely detached melancholy vocal from Damo Suzuki, as sad as the title suggests. Probably one of the most accessible Can tracks on the album that went into the German top 10, this is probably my favourite song, if I had to chose.
Deerhunter- Dr. Glass
From Flourescent grey e.p. Apparently the singer is often as weird as the music often sounds. They sometimes wander off into long noisy wig outs, but occasionally they come out with something truly amazing.
The Whitest Boy Alive- Burning
So much that Erland Oye has done, including Kings of Convenience seems, by enlarge really well thought out and well put together. I love the minimalism of this album. Apparently it was all going to be dancey with lots of synths, but after going through the ideas live they stuck to the minimal guitar/bass/ drums arrangements, and I think its better for that.
Deerhoof- Giga Dance.
Love the unexpected onslaught of weird guitars, somehow makes me think of Dracula coming to get you, but a kind of really groovy Dracula. The thing about Deerhoof is I really think you can hear their passion for music in what they play, as opposed to a bunch of guys trying to get girls and look cool.
